Flannery O'Connor: An unlikely author of disturbing fiction
Bishop Robert Barron: Flannery O'Connor
Even though she was a somewhat mousy, retiring figure with a thick southern drawl and a serious disease, Mary Flannery O’Connor wrote some of the most shocking, violent, and unnerving stories of our time.
Her stories usually feature regular people with all their faults and flaws receiving “an offer of grace” in the most unusual of circumstances. Sometimes the offer is accepted, but usually it is rejected.

An excerpt from
POPE FRANCIS: REJOICE AND BE GLAD
IN CONSTANT PRAYER
148. SaintJohn of the Cross tells us: “Endeavour to remain always in the presence of God, either real, imaginative, or unitive, insofar as is permitted by your works”.
In the end, our desire for God will surely find expression in our daily lives: “Try to be continuous in prayer, and in the midst of bodily exercises do not leave it. Whether you eat, drink, talk with others, or do anything, always go to God and attach your heart to him”.
